A toner is used to give your skin a hydrating boost right after cleansing your skin. It helps your creams, essence and other products hydrate your skin even more effectively.
Step 4, Toner
A toner is the 4th step in your Korean Skincare Routine. It should be used after you have used your oil based and water based cleansers and your peeling/scrub if that is in your routine for the day. A toner should be used in the morning as well as the evening after cleansing your skin and before applying your essence.
A toner is great for removing residual leftovers of make-up, dirt and SPF that your cleansers might have missed. It moisturises the skin and gives your it the hydrated, glowy look that we love so much. Toners help prevent breakouts by absorbing excess oil and cleaning your pores. In addition, cleansers can often be slightly too aggressive in terms of pH levels. A toner rebalances your skins pH.
There are different ways of using a toner, the most common one is to use a few drops on a cotton pad before gently patting your face. At KoCosmo, our favourite way of using a toner is simply to pour a few drops in the palm of your hand, rub your hands and fingers and gently pat your face followed by massaging your skin and neck upwards to improve your skin elasticity and for full absorption of your toner.
So which toner should I use?
Picking the right toner for you can be a difficult task. It is important to let your skin type and needs direct you in your search. There are toners which focus on hydration. These are great if you have patches of dry skin that you would like to treat. There are toners which have a light exfoliating element. These are great for dealing with Aging and Acne. In addition, there are toners which are focused on rebalancing your skin pH to help you deal with irritation or sensitivity.
It is important to know your skin before you find the right product. Check out our blog for tips and tricks on how to find out what your skin type or skin condition is.
